Please help us expand the breadth of offerings on Africa at Georgetown University.

The African Studies Program is in the midst of charting a multi-year expansion. We seek to offer more courses in areas where we have deficiencies, recruit new faculty, and maintain a high level of programming activity for the benefit of the students and the wider University community. Our goals include:

  1. institutionalization of African language instruction starting with Kiswahili;
  2. an endowed Distinguished Lecture Series that will enable us to continue to bring distinguished speakers to campus;
  3. an endowed Summer Fellowship for Georgetown students who seek to study and/or conduct research in Africa;
  4. a future Center for African Studies to house all of the aforementioned activities.

These are ambitious objectives, but they are goals that we believe are both realistic and appropriate for the African Studies Program, the Edumund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, and the University as a whole in our mission to bring Africa to a new generation, and a new generation to Africa.
