Please help us expand the breadth of offerings on Africa at Georgetown University.
The African Studies Program is in the midst of charting a multi-year expansion. We seek to offer more courses in areas we have deficiencies, recruit new faculty, and maintain a high level of programming activity for the benefit of the students and the wider University community. Our goals include:
- institutionalization of African language instruction starting with Kiswahili;
- an endowed Distinguished Lecture Series that will enable us to continue to bring distinguished speakers to campus;
- an endowed Summer Fellowship for Georgetown students who seek to study and/or conduct research in Africa.
- our planned expansion to graduation instruction. We seek to accomplish this by offering a Graduate Certificate, which will serve as a stepping stone to eventually creating a Masters program in African Studies.
All of these activities will be housed in a future Center for African Studies. These are ambitious objectives, but they are goals that we believe are both realistic and appropriate for the African Studies Program, the School of Foreign Service, and the University as a whole in our mission to bring Africa to a new generation, and a new generation to Africa.
To make a contribution, please complete the online giving form. Please make sure to indicate in the Special Designation Box that the contribution is for African Studies.
