Conceptualized by current co-chair Jon Askonas, the Walsh Exchange will provide undergraduate international relations students the opportunity to present their work in a more formal setting. Richard Hull: Israel and Africa During the Cold War

Dr. Richard Hull is a professor in the Department of History at New York University. He specializes in studying democratization in Africa and the origins of segregation in South Africa. His lecture will be based on his recent book Jews and Judaism in African History (Princeton: Weiner, 2009). A Q&A session will follow the event. Lunch will be served.
This event is free and open to the public.
Invisible Children Georgetown presents: Bobby Bailey

The Lecture Fund, College Democrats, and College Republicans are co-sponsoring an event with one of the founders of Invisible Children, Bobby Bailey. Bobby helped to start the organization and has become a well-known activist for eradicating extreme poverty in Africa.

His Excellency President Rupiah Bwezani Banda, 75, served as Zambia’s ambassador to the United Nations, ambassador to the United States, then vice president under President Levy Mwanawasa, taking over as acting president in June 2008 when Mwanawasa died after suffering a stroke. He was elected president in October 2008, oversaw notable national growth rates during his tenure with GDP peaking at 7.6 percent in 2010, and was narrowly defeated for reelection in September 2011.

Child Soldiers in Africa: Critical Perspectives
Speaker: Veronica Isala Eragu Bichetero, Gender and Conflict Advisor, The World Bank

Veronica Isala Eragu Bichetero is a lawyer and an advocate of the Courts of Judicature of Uganda. She is a senior consultant with EDG Venture Consult and an expert in women's rights, children's rights, vulnerable persons' rights, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding in Africa. Ms. Bichetero currently works with the World Bank as Gender and Conflict Advisor. She also does consultancies in human rights, governance, and rule of law for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO).
